This narrow, linear sampler is perfect for displaying with a spool!

Alsap Family Record Sampler

Ann Gott 1848

Ann's sampler is easy to love with all of the red and the charming cow in the yard.

This sampler is the closest that we have come to finding a sampler with our last name on it. It features many fun elements.

Ann Miller 1818

Stitch count: 142w x 79h

Do you like alphabets? This charming little sampler features multiple alphabets and a unique, pulled thread hemstitch.

Anna Kennedy 1854

Anna's sampler is colorful and a perfect sampler to do if you want to try some specialty stitches without being overwhel

B: An Unidentified Spot Motif Sampler

Stitch count: 245w x 207h

This spot motif sampler isn't marked with any identifying information, but it is charming with lots of interesting motifs - note the man with the top hat handing the woman a flower.

1840 Biedermeier Sampler

Stitch count: 291w x 172h

We believe this is an Italian sampler based on its shape and the religious motifs found throughout.

Caroline Alder 1827

Stitch count: 283w x 282h

There is so much to love about this sampler with the brown cow and brick house. Originally stitched (mostly) over one on a homespun linen.

Catharine Isabella Suliss 1838

Stitch count: 165w x 345h

This Canadian sampler has alphabets, a fun verse (that extends into the border), and the sweetest cottage with hollyhocks.

Catherington 1882

Stitch count: 113w x 125h

This marking sampler, originally stitch in red, can be stitched in your favorite color. It is the perfect size to practice hemstitching.

A Christmas Duo

We absolutely love partnering with our dear friend, Gigi R to bring you samplers that compliment one another. This set includes "The Song of the Angels" and "H. Purdy 1822."

Stitch count of "The Song of the Angels":

171w x 237h

Stitch count of "H. Purdy 1822": 119w x 210h

Clara Koschat 1873

Stitch count: 150w x 361h

This colorful sampler has a rabbit and a lobster, not to mention wonderful alphabet fonts.

A Deventer Duo - IDL 1806 & EH 1811

We partnered with Gigi R to bring you this collection of Deventer samplers. Deventer is a city in the Netherlands.

Stitch count of "IDL 1806": 398w x 315h

Stitch count of "EH 1811" (pictured):               437w x 334h

The Dutch Steps Duo

We partnered with Gigi R to bring you this pair of samplers. One is a more traditional Dutch Steps sampler and features the steps of life (not pictured) and the other has a roof with a stepped gabel.

Stitch count of "The Dutch Steps of Life":  286w x 324h

Stitch count of "Sara Wisse 1797" (pictured): 122w x 158h

A Duo of Sweet Verses

We partnered with Gigi R to bring you this pair of samplers, both with the sweetest of verses.

Stitch count of "Sarah Ann Lea 1853" (top):  224w x 206h

Stitch count of "Martha Lucinda Loomer 1846": 229w x 189h

EF 1836 & 1837

Stitch count (stitched as one sampler): 194w x 93h

You can stitch this as one sampler or get creative, split it, and finish the two separately.

E M Thomas 1846

Stitch count: 92w x 138h

This alphabet sampler is part of our Minerva and Friends series.

Elena Galvez

Stitch count: 247w x 399h

This sampler features a fun, decorative alphabet. And it's red! But you can stitch it in your favorite color.

Elinor Brad 1823

Stitch count: 153w 247h

Elinor's sampler is a moderate sampler that features fun critter motifs.

Ellen Harrison 1889

Stitch count: 242w x 164h

Originally stitched on 10ct canvas, Ellen's sampler is vibrant with its red and golds. It has a big house and an even bigger deer.

Elsie Curtice

Stitch count: 218w x 191h

This bright sampler has a cheerful man and woman, both holding birds, and the time honored sentiment "Home Sweet Home."

Fanny Johnson 1838

Stitch count: 92w x 85h

This little red sampler was originally a gift. You can stitch it on a high count linen or over one to get the small size or do it however you want and make it your own.

Funky A & E

Stitch count: 172w x 179h

This unmarked sampler we believe to be German or Austrian because of several motifs. The chart features both a bright (true to original) and toned-down conversation.

George Bierce Tobey 1854

Stitch count (with boy): 100w x 130h

Not often do we find samplers stitched by boys, but in this case, we found two by the same boy. Both are available in this chart. Pictured above are the reproductions next to the antiques.

Stitch count with boy: 100w x 130h

Stitch count with verse: 134w x 91h

George & Hannah Ashmore

Stitch count: 95w x 106h

The chart contains both sides of the small bag that features both George and Hannah's names.

Stitch count of picture:

Stitch count of words:

Hannah Elliot 1848

Stitch count: 317w x 507h

Some reproductions seem almost magical when they are complete and Hannah's sampler is one that is  particularly special to us.

Harmony

Stitch count: 140w x 78h

This sampler is a recreation of a wool on canvas sampler and we added a year and the word "Harmony."

Harriet Ann Hughson 1843

Stitch count: 178w x 200h

This sampler has one of our favorite verses as well as several specialty stitches.

Hinges of Friendship

Stitch count: 88w x 99h

This sampler is a recreation of an antique and we added the words "may the hinges of friendship never rust" because the elements of the sampler remind us of old hinges.

How Does My Garden Grow

Stitch count: 140w x 199h

This sampler was originally stitched on perforated paper. We have models on both paper and linen.

Isabella Johnstone 1854

Stitch count: 154w x 219h

Who doesn't love a red cow? This cow can be found in an old paper pattern book that was handed out as a souvenir.

Jane Bowen 1837

Stitch count: 215w x 270h

There is much to love about Jane's sampler, the most prominent being her bunny. This sampler is charted using only 8 colors of DMC.

Jane E Horton

Stitch count: 307w x 82h

This sampler is exclusively available at The Country Sampler in Spring Green, WI. Please contact the shop if you're interested.

Pictured is the antique and the reproduction.

Jane Plenderleath 1838

Stitch count: 147w x 221h

Jane's sampler is a moderate sampler with alphabets, beautiful borders,  and a quaint house.

Jane Tindall 1864

Stitch count: 299w x 290h

Our first reproduction and what a beauty she is with a pasture full of livestock and a signature cow.

Janet Rae

Stitch count: 163w x 265h

Originally done in wool, we have charted this sampler for wool and cotton.

Jannet Speirs 1813

Stitch count: 142w x 286h

Jannet's sampler is charming on its own, but we especially enjoy her name.

Jean Morgan 1834

Stitch count: 205w x 210h

This sampler features two sweet people. It is bright and whimsical - check out the corners!

Lilly Bates 1883 Pincushion

Stitch count: 110w x 117h (done over 1)

Lilly stitched her sampler over one thread of homespun linen, which allowed her to turn it into a pincushion.

The Little Busy Bee

Stitch count: 270w x 238h

This original sampler has a verse on industry to go along with the been skeps. We included the "Love me and Happy be" in the chart as well.

Lovest Thou Me 1855

Stitch count: 53w x 58h

This small sampler uses two colors to share a simple, yet sweet, token of love.

Lucinda Frazier 1866

Stitch count: 238w x 278h

Originally done on perforated paper, this Iowa Quaker sampler is the only one that we've seen like it. We recreated it for your enjoyment on linen.

Lucy V. Moore

Stitch count: 345w x 110h

Lucy's sampler is folksy and pure Americana! We love the horse and of course the flag.

M + A 1853

Stitch count: 121w x 150h

Originally done in wool on canvas, we charted this sampler with modern threads on linen. We love the vibrant flower that anchors this sampler.

Margret Croft

Stitch count: 170w x 202h

Margret left off a date and didn't include a location, but we absolutely love her stylized spotted cow and a-symmetry in the lower half of the sampler.

Margret Rogers

Stitch count: 116w x 180h

This is not your traditional Adam & Eve sampler. Margret included two girls under the tree as well as dogs.

Maria Davis 1823

Stitch count: 206w x 110h

Sometimes you just love the verse on a sampler and that is one of our favorite things about Maria's sampler.

Maria Tilley 1835

Stitch count: 292w x 378h

We love the gentle tones and motifs in Maria's sampler, especially the brown spotted cow. The parrots, butterflies, stags, and flowers also help to make this sampler both fun to stitch and view.

Martha Edes 1745

Stitch count: 116w x 180h

Martha's Boston Band sampler is really special and  the silks still shine today.

Martha Hards

Stitch count: 96w x 98h

This sweet alphabet sampler is a quick stitch. Have fun choosing your favorite color to stitch it in. She is also part of our Minerva & Friends series.

Mary Ann Aldred

Stitch count: 142w x 193h

This sampler was a stitch along and is currently not widely available.

Mary Anne Eynon 1858

Stitch count: 159w x 173h

Mary's sampler features a beautiful pictorial scene with a lamb and even has a few glass beads!

Mary Argent

Stitch count: 275w x 304h

This sampler is an exclusive at The Country Sampler in Spring Green, WI. Please contact the shop to order.

Mary Carr 1840

Stitch count: 371w x 338h

Mary's sampler has tons to love: the house, the field of animals (including the donkey), and the extra large tomato plant.

The chart includes a smaller version of the sampler with some of our favorite motifs.

Mary Hill 1854

Stitch count: 183w x 237h

This sampler is a club piece at The Country Sampler.

Mary Magee 1826

Stitch count: 210w x 195h

There is much to like about this sampler, but we love the shamrock border.

This chart includes a smaller design, Faithfulness, which uses elements from Mary's sampler.

Mary Mccallester 1824

Stitch count: 308w x 388h

We were initially drawn to the large, friendly looking cow on Mary's sampler, but her exquisite border around the sampler, as well as the floral borders within the sampler, truly had us falling in love.

Mary Moteshead

Stitch count: 221w x 193h

Mary's sampler is undated, but is very similar to an 1836 sampler belonging to the Whitman Sampler Collection of the Philadelphia Museum of Art; Sovine Palphreyman's sampler was reproduced by HandWork in 1999.

W. A Mexican Band Sampler

Stitch count: 272w x 95h

The type of bands within this sampler are the reason that we believe it to be Mexican. It is a quick and fun stitch because of the fairly short and colorful bands.

Minerva Ayliffe 1886

Stitch count: 109w x 107h

Minerva's cheerful sampler with a timeless verse are what inspired the Minerva & Friends series.

A 1799 Mother's Sampler

Stitch count: 301w x 149h

This mostly unmarked sampler (it has a year) is named after the block that has a mother and daughter in it. Several elements of this sampler lead us to believe its origins are Italian.

My Very Best: Pansy from the Past

Stitch count: 72w x 84h

This sweet pansy was originally stitched with beads (and you can do that too if you'd like), but you can stitch it in cross stitch. We adapted the chart to English and included "Friend" in place of "Papa." We encourage you to personalize it for a special person in your life.

Patronilla Asandes 1834

Stitch count: 370w x 212h

This Spanish sampler has pops of color that add some fun to this otherwise tone on tone sampler.

Phebe Meed 1859

Stitch count: 218w x 149h

Originally stitched on perforated paper, this sampler has texture provided by directional half stitches.

Polly Wanna: A Victorian Pincushion

Stitch count:

If you like birds, you'll love this pincushion. The colors are rich and playful.

Por Luciana Delgado

Stitch count: 460w x 200h

Though the name on the sampler was difficult to make out due to crowding and lost stitches, we believe that it has Spanish ties. This is a true practice sampler and includes cross stitch, four-sided stitch, satin stitch, Algerian eyelets, and ray stitches.

Posies from the Cottage

Stitch count: 72w x 73h (both sides)

We recreated a two-sided antique stitched purse. The dimensions are all the same, but we made our functional by finishing it with a long strap and a zipper.

A Present for My Sister 1823

Stitch count: 240w x 250h

This sampler doesn't include a name or place, but we love the sentiment. The chart includes various substitutions for "sister" so that you can personalize this gift.

Robina Leadbetter 1881

Stitch count: 74w x 75h

Robina's sampler is a sweet, quick stitch. It is part of the Minerva & Friends series.

Roses in July

Stitch count: 59w x 64h

Originally stitched on perforated paper, we recreated this little, patriotic  sampler on linen using silk.

RW&B ABC

Stitch count: 182w x 123h

Add a description about this item

Sarah Allen 1814

Stitch count: 120w x 148h

There are multiple elements in this sampler that remind us of Quaker samplers. Sarah's sampler is full of specialty stitches.

Sarah Barker 1840

Stitch count: 224w x 234h

Sarah's border reminds us of sunflowers with their darker centers and golden tones.

Sarah Burgess 1828

Stitch count: 149w x 170h

This sampler is special to us because it was done by a girl with the same name as a beloved friend (who is also one of Patrick's former high school teachers). Mostly cross stitch with some four-sided stitch.

Sarah Garrard 1825

Stitch count: 215w x 231h

Sarah's sampler debuted on a Book of Days cover and it's safe to say that most of us fell in love with her sampler.

Sarah Stewart Hardman

Stitch count: 236w xx 256h

We believe that Sarah's sampler is related to Ann Raynor's sampler. While there are differences, there are simply too many similarities. It is so much fun to connect samplers (and their makers) from so long ago!

Seven Red Alphabets

Stitch count: 485w x 233h

This is our companion sampler to our Six Red Alphabets sampler. We love the variety of alphabets as well as the motifs  included at the top.

Six Red Alphabets

Stitch count: 744w x 121h

With no identifying markings on this linear sampler, we named it after the six alphabets found on it. We love the seemingly incompleteness of this all cross stitch sampler.

Summer Garden Sampler

Stitch count: 145w x 176h

This wool on canvas sampler reminds us of summer gardens in full bloom. We can't help smiling as we look closely at the details throughout it like the busy bees, the hearts, the dogs, and the brimmed hat on top of the girl's head.

Virgil L. Peirce

Stitch count: 155w x 74h

With stitching predominantly done by females, it is always a treasure when we find a piece done by a boy. This one is sweet with what is most likely his school featured. Plus it was originally stitched on perforated paper.

The White Cottage

Stitch count: 100w x 30h

Originally stitched on perforated paper, we re-created this antique on linen.

Priscilla's Pocket created a replica of the antique slant-top box.

A Pomegranate Study

Stitch count: 132w x 93h

This sampler is comprised of various pomegranates from antiques in our collection. It includes an alphabet for personalization.

Quaker Medallions 1

Stitch count:

This design was inspired by the medallions found on Quaker samplers. Perfect for words of wisdom. Stitch them individually or together.

Quaker Medallions 2

Stitch count:

We enjoyed creating the Quaker Medallions 1 and equally enjoyed creating the Quaker Medallions 2 chart. The large picture above is the layout for stitching both parts 1 & 2 together.

Sampler Time

Stitch count: 88w x 90h

Part of our Time series. Stitch one or still them all!

A Series of Quaker Medallions

Stitch count: 240w x 304h

We took an unfinished sampler with half Quaker medallions as a border and created whole medallions to design this sampler.

Set Your Mind at Ease

Stitch count: 113w x 102h

We took flowers stitched in wool from an antique bag and added the words to create this piece. For finishing, we mounted it to the top of a round box.

Spring Time

Stitch count: 90w x 90h

Part of our Time series. Stitch one or still them all!

Sweet Land

Stitch count: 106w x 110h
